  1. hi quad- & zwilight
thank you for the update. Here are comments for SIDM/MGBD showreel.

    SIDM
1.Important text info that needs to be introduced before the various courses are SCHOOL OF INTERACTIVE & DIGITAL MEDIA. Nanyang Polytechnic.

    2. Take out any text that says openhouse 2010 so that clip can be reused in 2011

    3. Under DMD courses remove open house 2010 & replace with Digital Media Design. For the rest maybe you can just repeat the course name ie. for mgbd replace oh 2010 with Motion Graphics & Broadcast design

    4. Introduce DMD animation 1st followed by DMD games, DMD Interaction Design, DET, DVE & lastly MGBD

    5. The style frame Image reference for DET has best impact. Photo has contrast of dark & light. Its kind of semi abstract and has best contrast of image & text. The 'compound blur' look of the background helps to make it less mundane then the rest.

    MGBD showreel
1.Intro text on mgbd is too short and too inconspicuous.

    2. Text on COKE LIGHT is too overpowering against ' A course for creative rebels'. Remember that you need to include ...creating motion media for film, broadcast, advertising etc and audio visual performances. End off with School of Interactive & Digital Media, Nanyang Polytechnic

    3. Edititing is too much like the reference taken. Can use it as inspiration but try to break away from it gradually. The reference make use of very strong horizontal & vertical axis as main part of design. What about gradually shifting it to a diagonal. i.e. tilt everything so that there's a diagonal axis...(occassionally) so that it will look more dynamic.

    4. Check out parsons school of design showreel. it has the feel you're trying to create. Its in a cd that accompanies book Fine Art Animation by Jon Krasner

    5. also what abt checking up other prominent design school showreel, Cranbrook Academy (that's where deconstruction & David Carson emerged)

Merry Christmas to one & all

  2. hi again, just to add on to previous comments

while the photographs taken are interesting, it is also devoid of human/sillouette and the process of creation...drawing, sketching etc. If the architectural features are too predominant, it may be mistaken for a property ad. Since you may need more photographs to create the opening why dont you try to explore other subject matter and elements as well PARTICULARLY for MGBD showreel.

The photographs taken radiates an outdoor sort of impression. Why dont you try to juxtapose elements just like the surrealist did...juxtaposing normal objects in an unusual & unexpected setting...e.g an easel in a vast open field with a clear blue sky, silloutte of a hand painting on water by the pond, rows of pencils lined up by the window sill with a sunrise view etc

....school of interactive & digital design...could this be the school / a course that sets or revive design trends?
